The Kingfisher Medway Trust

Enjoy Kent's countryside and wildlife with a trip on the River Medway

Where We Go

Under Teston Bridge

At a leisurely pace we take you through some of the most beautiful countryside in Kent. Out on the water, enjoying the river, its wildlife and the many points of interest along the way.

Cruising downstream we pass under Teston Bridge, one of the oldest pack horse bridges in the country, then on to East Farleigh and its church with a Norman tower. On an all day trip we can then go on to historic Maidstone, the busy county town of Kent, where we moor up in sight of The Archbishop’s Palace.

Nettlestead Place

Upstream we pass Nettlestead Place, a Doomsday Book manor house, then through Hampstead Lock, past Teapot Island with its museum of over 3,900 teapots and on towards East Peckham and Beltring.

You will see geese and swans, perhaps a heron or kingfisher, as well as a wealth of wildflowers. If you don’t know a Coot from a Moorhen or Cuckooflower from Hairy Bitter-cress we have a book on board to help you.

Steering the boat

Passengers are encouraged to try their hand at steering the boat (under supervision of course!).

On the longer morning and all day trips they can help out at the locks we pass through. These trips also include a stop to enjoy a picnic beside the river bank.

Where you travel depends on which of the trips we offer you decide to book.

Please see the booking page to select the one that suits you; the morning four hour trip, a two hour cruise in the afternoon, or come out with us all day from 10.30am to 4pm. Whichever one you choose we’ll do our best to make sure you have a day to remember.
